SUMMARY

This is The story by Kenneth Anderson which shows the love of a human with a sloth bear whom she called ‘Bruno’. Bruno was a sloth bear rescued by the author. Bruno was shot by the author’s companions. Bruno gets attached to the author’s wife. Soon in the story there are accounts of Bruno’s life which shows how he spends the time with the author, with frequent accidents. As he grew in size he was sent to a zoo. The story then comes to effect when the author’s wife wants to meet Bruno, the author thinking that he must have forgotten her takes her to the zoo, bur after reaching there she came to know that it was true love. They with the permission of the superintendent of the zoo bring him back home. At home a separate island is made for the animal where the author’s wife and the bear spend hours together.

THEME

The theme of the story/incident is the bond we have with the wild and the bond that the wild keeps with us. Animals have always been our friends. Because we kill animals for food they do not put an eternal bar on us because the jungly law permits killing and eating each other. What is more important is the bond.

ANS- 1. (i) The author kenneth anderson says these words.
              (ii) Here 'him' refers to the bear cub and 'her' refers to author's wife.
             (iii) The 'incident' refers to when author and his friends were passing through asugarcane field and happened to find the bear cup painting in the hot sun.

2.(i) 'he' refres to the bear.
  (ii) he was delighted because he had reunited with author's wife.

3.(i)  'we all' stands for the author and his family.
  (ii)   they missed the bear bruno.
 (iii)  they felt relieved because bruno had grown big and was constantly creating problems for the family.

III. Answer the following questions in 30 to 40 words each

1. On two occasions Bruno ate/drank something that should not be eaten /drunk. What happened to him on these occasions? 

ANS- At one occasion bruno ate posion (barium carbonate) which was put to kill rats in the library.bruno suffered from paralysis and had to be taken to the vet.At another occassion,bruno drank engine oil but it had no ill effects on him.

2. Was Bruno a loving and playful pet? Why, then, did he have to be sent away?

ANS-When bruno was small he was playful and loving pet.but when he grew big he started to create a number of problems.He was mischievous.He had to be kept chained.At last he had to be send to the zoo.


3. How was the problem of what to do with Bruno finally solved?  

ANS-At last bruno was brought home. A separate island was constructed in the courtyard for him.It was 20 feet long and 15 feet wide and 7 feet deep. Baba was happy there.
